hockey’s farcical fans

The true story of a group of University of North Dakota hockey fans who turned yellow plastic helmets, questionable judgment, and an unwavering commitment to fun into a college hockey legend.

Meet sid bender

He was there. Which is probably the first thing you should know.

Sid Bender is the author of Hockey’s Farcical Fans: College Fun in the Levity 1970s and a firsthand witness to the wonderfully strange chapter of University of North Dakota hockey history captured in its pages.

As a member of the generation that experienced the Farce in real time, Sid brings together stories, memories, photographs and characters from an era that existed long before anyone thought to document every ridiculous thing they did on a phone.

The result is part sports history, part memoir and part tribute to the friends who made those years unforgettable.

And after all these years, he finally decided the Farce deserved to be documented.

Or perhaps explained.
